Z is for Caroline Zhang

I can't believe this is the last day of the challenge!  I've had so much fun and gotten a whole bunch of new followers!  Thanks everyone!  Anyway, for my last post, I wanted to end on something really good.  I couldn't really think of anything for myself that started with a Z, so instead I'm going to show you one of my all time favorite programs.  Her name is Caroline Zhang and she is an amazing skater.  Her signature move is her amazing layback.  Her back is super flexible and the position is amazing!  Watch this video here and see what I'm talking about!! :)

Caroline Zhang Caroline Zhang competes in the Ladies Short Program during the ISU Four Continents Figure Skating Championships at World Arena on February 10, 2012 in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Wasn't that amazing!?  She is definitely one of my favorite skaters of all time!  I've practically memorized her whole program I've watched it so many times!  Everyone have a great day!  Thanks to all of my new followers and great comments!!

Hope you enjoyed watching! :)

Y is for Yretha Silete

Yretha Silete is an amazing female figure skater.  She has really good height on her jumps and really nice spins and footwork.  Yretha Silete goes the other way on her jumps and her spins.  For example, when I spin I go into it on my left foot, when she spins she goes into it on her right foot.  Everything she does is the opposite way of how I do and most other people do.  There are still a good amount of people who go the other way like her.  Here's one of my favorite videos of her skating in France, 2012!

She only made one mistake on her triple flip.  But other than that, she did a really good program!!

Hope you enjoyed watching! :)

X is for X-treme move

I don't really know if this is a really x-treme move like Scott Hamilton ( a professional male figure skater) doing a literal back flip on the ice!  If you want to watch it click here: Scott Hamilton Backflip!  But anyway here's a video of me doing a star-flying camel, (that's just a fancy way of saying 'pick your toe pick into the ice a couple times and then do a flying camel.'  And then I do, (while I'm still spinning,) an illusion.  (That was my I post.)  And then I finally come up into a backspin.  Here it is! :)

Hope you enjoyed watching!  :)

W is for Waltz Jump

The waltz jump is one of the earliest and most basic jumps you learn in figure skating.  The waltz jump is where you do back crossovers and then take off forward and then land backwards.  Here's a video of me doing a waltz jump.

I've been doing this jump almost ever since I started skating.  It probably took me around a month to get it.  Oh!  And since I didn't get a chance to post my V video yesterday, today I got the chance to video my spin variation.  Yesterday when I posted the V post I said I was going to do this big, huge combination, but today when I was on the ice I forgot what it was so I just videoed me doing a different big combination, a back-camel into a back-sit then into a forward broken leg, and then into a tuck sit spin position and then finally into a one foot spin!  Here it is!! :)

Hope you enjoyed watching! :)

V is for spin Variation

A spin variation is where you do a whole bunch different positions while you're spinning.  So remember my letter F post??  If you didn't visit that one, that's OK, but in that video I did a flying camel - catch foot combination. I know you'll be disappointed but I didn't get a chance to get a video of me today.  Sorry!  We were doing ice show practice  (the show is on June 10th.  I'm skating to the song Listen to Your Heart by Cascada with four other friends including my sister Jessica.)  Here's the song if you want to listen to it: Skating Song. so tomorrow I'll get a video of me doing a forward camel into a sit spin then into a broken leg and then into a tuck foot sit spin position and then back sit spin AND THEN up into a normal backspin!!  I know it's a lot!  But that's why it's called a spin variation!

U is for skating in Unison

You all should know what unison is... I hope.  Anyway skating in unison is obviously just skating the exact same moves at the exact same time as the other person that you're out on the ice with.  Here's a video of me and my sister Jess from Write. Skate. Dream skating in unison!

See?  Not to brag, but,  pretty good though right?? LOL.  And of course since I didn't get a chance to actually post the video of my twizzles yesterday, (I still posted) I'm going to show it to you now.  Here's also a video of me doing twizzles for the letter T.

Hope you enjoyed watching these!!

T is for Twizzles

A twizzle is a move where your either on your left or right foot, (It doesn't really matter) but I prefer to do it on my right leg.  So anyway, in a twizzle you turn multiple times on your whatever leg you choose.  This move is hard to stay balanced with, I actually have to do twizzles in one of my skating tests. I have to do twizzles on my left inside edge foot, a twizzle still on the left foot but on the outside edge (ugh...) and then the a twizzle on the right inside edge (YAY!) and then a twizzle on the right outside edge.  NOT THAT FUN!  Sorry I know that was a lot and probably really confusing! Today, we didn't have the time to take a video today, so I'll be posting a video of me tomorrow doing the twizzle and that same day, I'll also post the U post!

Thanks

P.S. Sorry for the no video today!!  :P

S is for Scratch Spin

The scratch spin is a spin where you rotate really fast, spinning on your left leg and letting your right leg curl around your left.  This spin is very common and is one of the first spins that you learn.  When you hear that, you may think it's not that hard to get since it's for beginners, but it took me months,  maybe even a year to get the spin really good!  Here's a video of me doing the scratch spin.

This video was taken a couple of days ago.  Hope you enjoyed watching!

R is for Rocker

A rocker is a move where you start on either your left or your right foot and turn your hips to face forward then backward.  In this video that I'm about to show you, I do a repetitious rocker sequence.  Rockers are actually a lot harder than they may look, you can easily lose your balance and fall over.  Here's a video of me doing repeating rockers.

This video was taken today.  I keep saying this, but I compete tomorrow at 12:20!  Wish me luck! :)

Hope you enjoyed watching! :)

Q is for Quick Footwork

Quick footwork...Well, I'm sure I don't need to go into a huge explanation.  Quick footwork is simply doing really fast, quick movement with the feet.  Here's a video of me doing some quick footwork!

This footwork is actually in my figure skating program that I'm going to compete with on Saturday!  This video was taken today!

Hope you enjoyed watching! :)

P is for Pancake spin

The pancake spin is where you rotate low to the ground with one leg curled over your other leg. (I know, it sounds confusing!) The pancake spin takes a tremendous amount of balance.  I fall all the time on this spin! So, here's (an okay) video of me doing the pancake spin!

I only got this spin a couple months ago, maybe?  It's kind of new for me, but I think it's pretty cool!  This video was taken today.

Hope you enjoyed watching!

P.S I have a competition on Saturday!

O is for Outside edge spiral

An outside edge spiral is were you spiral (meaning lifting one leg up) and staying on the outside edge of your skate.  Which means either leaning really far out to the right, or really far out to the left on one of your legs.  In this video that I'm about to show you, with my sister and one of my skating friends, I, lift up my left leg to spiral, but since they both lift up their right leg, I had to as well.  So my spiral isn't as high in this video, but it's the best I could do LOL.  (I'm the one in the middle!) :)

The spiral is a fairly easy move to get consistent.  I've had the spiral for a long time now.  The spiral takes great flexibility and balance.  This video was taken today.  :)

Hope you enjoyed watching!

N is for Mirai Nagasu

Mirai Nagasu is a top level (senior) U.S Figure Skater.  She's won and competed at whole bunch of big, BIG top figure skating competitions.  She's an amazing skater and she has beautiful big, high, jumps, and graceful spins.  Here's a video of one of her great performances!

She ends up taking second place.  She competed in Shanghai, China in 2011 in this video.

Hope you enjoyed watching!

M is for skating with Mom

My mom and I love to skate together.  We skate almost every day with eachother.  My mom started skating when she was about 13.  I started skating ever since I could walk, but I was never serious until about eight or nine years old.  Here's a video of me and my mom doing what's called the Biellman, (That move was in my B post) :)

This video was taken today.  We don't go into it very fast because we didn't know my sister Jessica was videoing yet!  Hope you enjoyed watching!  Go check out my mom's blog at Imagine Today.

L is for Layback

The layback is a really cool spin were you rotate with your leg curved and your arms in a pretty, graceful position.  It took me a while to get my layback.  It can make you super dizzy (it still does) and can make you totally off balance.  Here's a video of me doing the layback spin. :)

It's pretty slow, but my main focus right now is to get the position right.  This video was taken two days ago.  :)

Hope you enjoyed watching!

K is for Katch foot

The Katch foot, really spelled the catch foot, (I guess it doesn't really matter how you spell it since I made the name up,) is a move where you skate forward (or backward) and lift your leg to the side of you.  This move can be a little dangerous at first, but once you get the balance and the right speed, it'll be so much easier!  Here's a video of me doing the Katch foot:

I started this move about two months ago.  This was taken yesterday.  :)

Hope you enjoyed watching!

J is for Jump Combination

A jump combination, well, it kind of explains itself.  It's where you do some kind of jump and then add another jump to the first one.  A jump combination can be as simple as waltz-jump side toe hop, waltz jump.  (Those jumps are very basic if you don't know)   Or  it can be as complicated as triple axel, quadruple toe loop.  Yes, people can do quadruples!  So here's a video of me doing an axel, double toe loop combination jump.  :)

I've been working on this jump for a couple months now, but it's hard to get it really really nice.  So I've still got some working to do, but it's coming along.  This was taken yesterday.  :)

Thanks for watching!

I is for illusion

The illusion is a cool move where your leg kind of acts like a see-saw.  You do a right inside three turn, and kick your left leg up and touch your right hand to the ice.  Your leg and arm go up and down like a see-saw.  This is a really cool move!  Here it is!

I've had this move for a while now, I don't exactly remember for how long.  I probably started working on it a couple of months ago.  This was taken today. :)

Hope you enjoyed watching!!!

H is for Hydroplane

A hydroplane is a really cool move where you stick both of your hands on the ice and move in a circular motion.  I found this move on YouTube while searching up cool figure skating moves.  I take synchronized skating and the hydroplane (sometimes we call it the spider because it looks kind of weird, but cool) is a popular move in syncrho. Here's me doing the move!

I started working on this move, about two months ago, I think.  It's kind of weird right?  But cool!  This was taken today.

Hope you enjoyed watching! :)

G is for Gary Beacom

Sorry I posted so very late today, I literally couldn't think of anything in figure skating that started with  a G.  Other then two foot, forward gliding which is really basic, and who wants to see a five second video of me skating forward?  Yeah, no one.  So instead I'm posting a video (that you can watch if you want) of a great male figure skater named Gary Beacom.  I really like him because he doesn't have typical moves that everyone does.  He comes up with very unique and really awesome moves!

I couldn't get the video from YouTube onto my post but you can watch it here:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-iJLlBn8-pE&feature=related Now you don't need to watch the whole video but at least watch enough to see how weird (in a good way) his skating is. :)

Thanks for watching!

F is for Flying Camel

The flying camel is a really hard move to actually make look good.  Remember my letter C post?  Well that's   just the plain camel spin.  The flying camel is were you jump up in the air and land in a backwards camel spin. I've been working on my flying camel for about a year. Here's the video!

At the end of the spin I add a lift to my leg.  So I did a flying camel-catch foot spin! :)

Thanks for watching!

E is for spread EAGLE

The spread eagle is kind of a cool move.  The spread eagle is where you skate forward and then you move with both of your feet planted firmly to the ice.  This is kind of a hard move to explain, so here, just watch the video!  The spread eagle isn't one of my strong suits!

This move isn't the most interesting, unless you can do it really well, (which I can't LOL)  Hope you enjoyed watching anyway!  This video was taken three days ago.

D is for Double Salchow

The double salchow is a jump where you rotate two times around in the air.  This jump took me a couple of months to get consistent.

This jump is challenging because, while you're in the air you have to think about so many different things!  You have to keep your left leg right next to your right leg so you don't get off balance and your leg swings you all around.  That's what usually makes you fall on this jump, your leg swinging all around!  I've fallen plenty of times on it!  This was taken two days ago! :)

Thanks for watching
Alyssa :)

C is for Camel spin

The camel, is a spin, where you are rotating and your leg is parallel to the ice.  This spin maybe took me about a year to get nicely.  It is very challenging and it is very hard to stay centered and balanced because, your leg is swinging your body all around, which could make you completely off balance!

I end with a much faster spin called a scratch spin.  You usually end the camel with that spin.  This was taken yesterday. :)

B is for Biellman

The biellman is a really cool move where you skate forward and lift up your leg behind you.  I've been doing this move for a long time and have been able to get my leg higher and higher until it's almost a full split!

The biellman takes flexibility and balance.  I've fallen many times in the past years trying to master this move!  This is a video of me, today, doing the biellman! :)
